ANOKA, Minnesota – October 27, 2026 – Team Federal’s Derrick Mein won the prestigious All-Around title at the 2026 NSCA National Championships held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas. The two-time Olympian had an impressive week by placing in several events including a Runner-Up finish in the Main Event. The National Championships drew more than 2,600 competitors including a large international contingent. The National Sporting Clay Championships ran from October 17 to 25, 2026.
“I feel like I had a good week,” Mein said. “The All-Around is something I always strive for because it shows consistency across all of the events. I’ve won this award before and know the difficulty especially with such a strong field of competitors.” The Kansas native said the targets over the week were fair and challenging and it was important to have a well-rounded game. During the week, he also finished Runner-up in both the 5-Stand and 20 Gauge events.
Mein gave some insights into how a minor change to his system paid off and how tight these competitions are because of the high level of shooting. “On Sunday, I had a difficult first station. By changing to a lighter lens color, I was able to have better visibility and I shot very well,” said the two-time Olympian. “I predominately shoot the 1-ounce HOA (High Over All) and the 1-ounce Papers in 1290 fps from Federal,” said Mein. “HOA is a good all-around load and has gained my trust, but when I need to break a target at longer distances, I choose the Gold Medal Papers because I feel like they hold a little tighter pattern and hit a little harder.”
Mein will take a few weeks off to enjoy some time in the deer stand before heading to Peru to compete in the CAT Games (Championship of the Americas Games). With a top podium finish, Mein hopes to earn a quota spot for the United States in the 2028 Olympics being held in Los Angeles.
