Product Overview

Harness the power of slugs without sacrifices. The Federal Premium® Trophy® Copper uses a unique sabot design to produce rifle-like accuracy at 200 yards through rifled barrels. The slug's deep, externally skived nose cavity provides superior expansion, while the polymer tip and sleek profile increase downrange velocity and game-dropping energy.

  • Precision sabot provides superior in-bore alignment and consistent projectile separation at muzzle exit for the ultimate slug accuracy
  • Sub-4 inch groups at 200 yards
  • Deep, externally skived slug cavity for consistent, superior expansion across a broad velocity range
  • Polymer tip and sleek profile increase the ballistic coefficient for higher downrange velocity and energy

Trophy Copper 3" P209 TC in Savage 220F
This afternoon I sighted in on 5 rounds of 3" 20 gauge Federal Premium Trophy Copper P209 TC, which is replacing Federal's P209XT1 Barnes Tip I used previously. Since the Trophy Copper is similar to the Barnes Tip, I expected similar results from the Savage 220F. Point of impact changed, so I did adjust the scope but not much. My 5 shot opinion is the Trophy Copper P209 TC is more consistent. At 80 yards the first and second shot shared the same hole - I walked to the target to make sure I hadn't missed completely. After adjusting the scope to a new POI, the next three shots were nicely patterned at 3" hight at 80 yards. Again only a 5 shot opinion, the Trophy Copper P209 TC shot similarly from a clean barrel, fouled barrel, and warm barrel. My previous experience with the Savage 220F was the the P209XT1 Barnes Tip shot differently as barrel conditions changed. Problem solved. The Trophy Copper P209 TC shot consistently and predictably without having to stop and clean.

Superb groups
My first sighting in session with my Ithaca Deerslayer 3 put five shots in 1.1 inches at 100 yards. I bought three types of Remington slugs (two were accutip), Hornadys, and Winchesters. None performed even close to these Federal Trophy Coppers.

This is not a viable replacement for the Barnes Tipped slug
I bought this product because I was told that the Barnes Tipped product is no longer available. I was extremely disappointed when I shot this product; my groups were over 5” at 100 yds, and far larger than the 2” groups that I have come to expect with the Barnes tipped product.
